International Student Loans

You may not appreciate it, but international student loans are what help the vast majority of students in our universities secure a first class education. Most of us labor under the mistaken belief that a lot of the international students on our campuses are from well off or even wealthy families. But this is not the case. In fact, if one were to examine the countries that they come from, the startling revelation would be that almost all of them come from developing economies. While it is true that a relatively small number of them might be self-financed and consequently from wealthy families, the vast majority are able to study in our universities only because of what has come to be known as international student loans.

As the name itself reveals, international student loans are monetary assistance provided by banks and other financial institutions that enable students from one country to go abroad to further their education. For all practical purposes, international student loans are very similar to other kinds of loans. Students who want to apply for international student loans need to first and foremost secure admissions or at the very least have an offer...

School Fundraising

I can always tell when the school year begins in the fall. My doorbell rings at least twice a week with children trying to sell me something that is way overpriced or super impractical. Usually, the first one or two kids who target my house will walk away with an order. After that, I’m not interested. School fundraising is something that will never go away and students will always feel obligated to do for their schools. Usually, prizes can be earned or won – a supposed incentive for these kids to sell their hearts out. In all honesty, you could buy the prize for a lot less than the amounts you have to sell in order to earn it.

Typically, the items that school fundraisings are overpriced. You’ll find yourself paying double what you’d pay in a department store for wrapping paper or candy. However, times have changed. There are so many different things that school fundraising sells to the public today that really can be reasonable and of great assistance to the schools. I’ve seen pizza sales, sub sandwich sales, chicken barbecue, raffle tickets – lots of creative things. Typically, I buy an Entertainment book...

Money Management for Families

If you are having problems controlling your debt, you may be like millions of others in that you simply have problems with money management. This is one of the most common reasons why some go into debt, and it is something that can be fixed. Not only is this a problem for those worrying about their personal finances; it can also be a problem for those who may be starting or running their own small business. It is something that seems to be ignored as we grow, and many have no idea what they are doing when they are on their own for the first time.

One thing that should be taught more thoroughly in high school might just be money management, but this is something that usually falls on the parents. Those coming from a home in which money is not really a concern often think they can go about spending money like their parents do. What they don’t realize is that their parents have the money, and the children are probably not making nearly as much as they should if they wanted to match their parents spending habits. Money management is a concept...

German Food Recipes

When one thinks of great world cuisine, it is Chinese, French and Italian that comes to mind. However, German food recipes have something to offer and may be undervalued. The country has regional differences and some national favorites. The main meal is taken at mid-day, although smaller lunches and bigger evening meals are increasingly popular. Breakfast usually consists of bread or bread rolls spread with jam, honey, cured meats or cheese. Bread is important to the German psyche, with 300 different kinds for sale.

Germans are meat lovers on the whole, especially when it comes to their beloved sausage, of which there are 1,500 varieties! Pork is the most favored meat and then poultry and beef. German food recipes often involve boar, rabbit or venison too. Pot-roasting is the preferred method of cooking the meat. Hot mustard often accompanies the meat or horseradish.

Vegetables are sometimes eaten as side dishes or as part of stews and soups. Fried onions and asparagus are very popular. Potatoes have always been a staple but noodles and dumplings are eaten a lot in the south. Fish dishes tend to include strong flavored fish such as herrings, tuna, sardine or mackerel. Salmon is also a common dish.

There is not much call for spicy food, most people preferring the flavor to come through on its own or with some unobtrusive herbs. German food recipes are often washed down with beer or wine. Both wine and beer is successfully exported all over the world and has a good reputation. The most popular non-alcoholic beverages are coffee and apple juice mixed with sparkling mineral water. Fresh fruit is a common ingredient of desserts in German food recipes, decorating cakes and in pies. Cheesecake is a favorite end to a meal or as a snack with coffee.

As with all culinary traditions, influences from the outside play a part. There are plenty fast food chains in the towns and cuisine from other countries is growing in popularity. There are a lot of French, Chinese and Italian restaurants and the Turkish immigrant community has popularized Turkish food. In fact, it was Turkish settlers who invented the donner kebab, a late night supper for many revelers on their way home from the tavern. German food recipes are mainly what keeps the Germans happy. They may not be to every tourist's taste but it's wholesome, home grown food and it should be given a chance.

It’s no wonder so many are confused as to what they should be eating more of and what they should cut out of their diet entirely. The best advice you could probably find in any nutrition articles is to...

Childrens Diet

We are what we eat. This is something you've probably heard ever since you were a small child. Chances are you tell the same thing to your children. We have to let them know at an early age how imperative it is to eat healthy. It's especially crucial at that time in their life because they're growing. Poor childrens diets can lead to lack of growth and obesity issues rather quickly. This is the last thing any of us want for our precious little ones. So, now you have to stop and think for a moment. What are you routinely feeding your child?

My wife and I embraced the notion of healthy childrens diets the minute our daughter was born. We wanted to get her off to a great start. Obviously for nearly a year, it was all about the milk and formula. But once she began teething, we knew we had to make some choices. One of the main things we did was introduce her to the fruit and vegetable group. We offered her tons of this stuff. Fortunately for us, as she grew older, she really took to it. Now at the age of...

Lunar Phase Tracking Software and Astronomy

Astronomy isn't what is used to be. Astronomy has moved on since I was a kid!

I have always been fascinated by the moon and as a child used to view it through a fairly basis telescope which my parents bought me (unexpectedly) one Christmas. Over the years other interests took over along with the pressures of a family taking up my time. What I hadn't realised what that in the intervening period some great software has come out which if you have an interest in both facts and figures and astronomy, will certainly hold a lot of interest for you. Moon phase predictions software now contains so many items of interest that you may not need your telescope again!

The Moon and astronomy in general has certainly seen a resurgence of interest in the last few years, both in space exploration and among amateur astronomers young and old. Whilst our cities may grow ever larger, the amount of lighting has also increased and many city-dwellers are hard-pushed to see anything but the brightest stars in their neon-glow skies. But the Moon suffers no such indignity. It serenely crosses the sky, ever visible (providing...
